People usually tell their clinician about their alcohol use and mood symptoms weeks or months after they have already experienced them. By the time clinicians are made aware, their ability to assist with patients’ drinking or symptoms may be more challenging. As a potential option to aid clinicians in the future, this study is collecting brief daily diaries of people’s mood and alcohol use to provide a picture of someone’s drinking habits and thoughts soon after they are experiencing them. We aim to show these brief daily diaries are more detailed and accurate than recalling an experience weeks later.
Participants are asked to do the daily diary task via the web-based app every day for 30 days and encouraged to sit in a private room with minimal distractions.
Please send an email to bpresearch@med.umich.edu or give us a call at (877) 864-3637 mentioning the Web-Based Diaries of Psychiatric Symptoms – Drinking study.
For your participation, the maximum you can potentially earn in this study is $310 by completing the following:
All payments will be made in gift card form and will be obtained through the Human Subject Incentive Program (HSIP) at the University of Michigan.
If something went wrong (someone walked in, app froze, or you accidentally hit the stop button), just make a new recording right away. At the start of the new recording say something like: "I am re‑doing my diary for today. Please ignore the earlier one."
We will use the clearer replacement recording. You do not need to email us unless the problem keeps happening.
Unfortunately no. The app starts a new session at midnight Eastern each day. Once the date rolls over, you can only complete today's session.
Just continue with today's survey and recording. Please do not try to "make up" a missed day inside today's entry - keep each day focused on that day only.
